Symptom Cause & Solution
I can't see any sections or any images anywhere inside the program.

This means you probably haven't created the subfolders and uploaded images for your "Home" directory.

To solve this problem:

  1. Login to your ftp account using an ftp client.
  2. Use your ftp client to create the subdirectories you wish to have under Home.
  3. Use your ftp client to upload non-progressive .jpg image files into the respective subdirectories.
  4. Use the administration panel to generate thumbnails and enter descriptions for each of the .jpg files you uploaded.
Inside the administration panel, the thumbnails and the description are not created.

Most probably, the thumbnail and description creation script were not able to create new files containing the thumbnails and the descriptions. That is because the "Home" folder and its subfolders don't have write permission.

To solve this problem:

  1. Login to your ftp account using an ftp client.
  2. Use your ftp client to set write permissions for the "Home" directory and each and every one of its subdirectories. (chmod 777 should do the job).
Inside the administration panel, I can view the large image, but the thumbnails are not created.

There are three possible solutions:

  1. Make certain that your jpeg files are non-progressive.
  2. Use your ftp client to set write permissions for the "Home" directory and each and every one of its subdirectories. (chmod 777 should do the job).
  3. The thumbnail generator, GD2 extension does have some size restrictions. If your image is extremely large, try reducing the width and height of the large image, then try and create your thumbnail.
Most of the time, after I create thumbnails and I enter the descriptions, the new thumbnails and descriptions will show up only after I open a new browser window.

Your browser caches the old thumbnails and the old descriptions to save bandwidth.

To solve this problem:

Disable your browser's caching.
For Internet Explorer, you must go to the Tools > Internet Options dialog and do the following :

Don't forget to change it back to the way it was after you've finished editing your content.

I have created the sections I want to have on the left, and I have also uploaded the image files to their proper locations, but the images (or some of the images) don't show up.

IVP can only load non-progressive .jpg files, or your image files are probably not .jpg files.

To solve this problem:

  1. Open the respective images with an image editing software (such as Photoshop).
  2. Use the File > Save as... or File > Export commands for that software to create jpeg copies of the respective images without progressive encoding (which should be on some settings dialog).
Even though IVP recognizes the uploaded files, when I click on them, the large pictures won't appear.

IVP can only load non-progressive .jpg files. Your jpg files may be having progressive encoding, which will not allow IVP to display them at all.

To solve this problem:

  1. Open the respective images with an image editing software (such as Photoshop).
  2. Use the File > Save as... or File > Export commands for that software to create jpeg copies of the respective images without progressive encoding (which should be on some settings dialog).
